University of Wolverhampton alumnus and former Nike Vice President of Design, David Odusanya, returned to his alma mater to inspire current Graphic Design students with insights from his distinguished career.
David Odusanya, a 1991 graduate with a BA in Visual Communications and a member of the University’s Alumni Hall of Fame, recently visited the University to speak with students. He shared his professional experiences and advice, drawing on his 25 years at Nike, where he served as Vice President of Design, and his current role as Co-Founder and Creative Director of CO-Lab.
Odusanya, who was in Europe for business and travelled to London, took the initiative to contact the University to arrange the visit. He expressed a strong belief in giving back to the institution that helped shape his career and a desire to support the next generation of creative talent.
He credited the foundations developed during his studies at Wolverhampton with providing many of the skills he uses today, influencing his approach to creative thinking, collaboration, and professional practice. His message to students emphasised the lasting impact of university-developed skills and knowledge in opening doors to unimagined opportunities.
Marc Austin, Course Leader for Graphics, welcomed Odusanya's visit, highlighting the value for students to learn directly from an industry pioneer. Austin noted that Odusanya's willingness to share his knowledge and time exemplifies the significant role alumni play in shaping student experiences and ambitions.
“
"It is always a real privilege to welcome David back to the University and to see him give so generously of his time to our students. Having someone of his experience speak directly to a packed room of aspiring creatives brings the realities of the industry to life in a way that is difficult to replicate in the classroom."
“
"David’s willingness to return, share his knowledge and help educate the next generation says a great deal about his connection to the University. His journey demonstrates what is possible with the right foundations, curiosity and commitment, and his advice gives our students valuable insight and inspiration as they consider their own futures."
The visit underscored the importance of alumni sharing their lived experiences, offering a unique perspective grounded in professional practice that complements academic study and helps students recognise their potential in a competitive industry.
