Residents of Derby are invited to share their views on draft strategies aimed at shaping the city's housing services, focusing on homelessness prevention and supported housing.

Derby City Council is encouraging residents to contribute to the development of its housing services by providing feedback on two key draft strategies. The Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy outlines plans to prevent and tackle homelessness, aligning with the Government's National Plan to End Homelessness. It proposes five priorities focused on early intervention, supporting at-risk individuals, and ensuring long-term stable housing.
The strategy has been informed by local data, national research, and input from individuals with lived experience of homelessness, frontline staff, housing providers, and partner organisations. The council is seeking comments on whether the proposed priorities are appropriate for Derby and what further considerations should be made before finalisation.
Alongside this, the council is consulting on its draft Supported Housing Strategy. This strategy aims to ensure that supported housing meets local needs, offering safe accommodation and tailored support for individuals such as older people, those with learning disabilities, mental health issues, or those moving on from homelessness. It is built around ten priorities designed to provide timely support, maintain quality and safety standards, and promote independence.
“

"Access to affordable, safe and high-quality housing with appropriate support where needed, provides the foundation for people to live healthy, safe, and independent lives, and both strategies will play an essential role in shaping services across the city over coming years. Our vision is to improve housing outcomes, help some of the most vulnerable people in our city and develop plans that reflect the views and experiences of residents, including those with lived experience of homelessness and supported housing services. We want to hear from as many people as possible so we can identify the right priorities for Derby."

Councillor Shiraz Khan · Cabinet Member for Housing, Strategic Planning and Regulatory Services
Feedback from both consultations will help the council refine its priorities and develop final delivery plans. The consultations are open until Monday 11 January, and surveys can be completed via the Let’s Talk Derby website.
