Ten brand new, energy-efficient homes have been handed over to South Derbyshire District Council this week, to be let to applicants on the district’s housing register.

The new homes, located on Ladybrook Place at Cromwell Orchard, part of a development at New House Farm in Mickleover, are one-bedroom apartments built using traditional construction methods. They feature Solar PV Panels and high insulation with gas central heating to reduce electricity bills and ensure comfort.
These affordable homes, offered at social rent levels, aim to provide much-needed housing for local people and reduce housing inequality. They will be allocated through the Council’s system to those on the housing register with a housing need. This handover follows the completion of four similar apartments last month on an adjacent development.
“

"This is my second visit to this development with our Strategic Housing Team in the past few weeks to view brand new homes for those in need on our housing register. I’m very proud to say that, as it shows the dedication the team has given to delivering on our strategy to provide more quality, affordable homes each year across South Derbyshire. Every one of the properties I have seen have been built to a great standard and will be ideal for individuals or couples looking for somewhere to call home."

Mick Mulgrew · Vice Chair of the Housing and Community Services Committee at South Derbyshire District Council
The properties align with the Government’s Future Homes Standard, due in March 2027, which mandates carbon reduction measures in new builds to help the environment and reduce living costs through energy savings. This supports the Council’s priority to tackle fuel poverty and increase affordable housing.

"Reaching this milestone is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in the project. Through close collaboration with South Derbyshire District Council, we've created a collection of high-quality, sustainable homes designed to meet the needs of modern living. Knowing these properties will provide secure, affordable homes for local people makes this development particularly meaningful"

"As Clerk of Works, appointed to represent our client, South Derbyshire District Council, throughout the construction process, I have been consistently impressed by the quality of the homes delivered by Bloor Homes. The strong collaborative approach between the developer and the Council has resulted in the successful delivery of attractive and energy-efficient homes that will help meet current demand for affordable housing and provide much needed accommodation for households on the Council’s waiting list. These homes will make a lasting difference to local residents and the wider community"
