In his message, Mayor Hamilton highlighted the importance of Remembrance Sunday as a time for the community to come together and show respect for fallen heroes. He noted that Loughborough's Remembrance parade and service have grown to become one of the largest in the East Midlands.
He also acknowledged the ongoing conflicts around the world and the impact on many families, stressing the continued need for public support. The Mayor encouraged generosity when purchasing poppies, emphasising their importance in honouring past and present serving members of the armed forces and their families.
“"Your donations will be gratefully received by the Royal British Legion, without which it could not continue its work in supporting those service personnel and their families affected by the conflicts in which they have served."
Loughborough's Queen’s Park will host a Remembrance Sunday event on November 8, honouring those who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces. The service will take place at the Carillon Tower, the town’s War Memorial.
The Remembrance Sunday Parade will commence from the town centre at 10.20am, proceeding to the Carillon for the service, which begins at 10.50am. Further details are available on the Charnwood Borough Council website.
