The Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Improvements project has seen significant progress in October. Key achievements include the restoration of the two-way system on Phase 1 and the completion of the eastside footway for the same phase. Drainage works and the westside footway for Phase 3 have also been completed, with continued work on the eastside footway and drainage for Phase 3. Vegetation clearance across all phases has been carried out, and the permanent traffic signals for the West Elloe and Woolram Wygate junctions have been upgraded. Work on signs and street lighting for all phases is ongoing.
Looking ahead to November, carriageway reconstruction is planned for Phases 1 and 2. The eastside footway and drainage works for Phase 3 are set to be completed, along with footway works on the Woolram Wygate junction, which will allow for the reopening of the level crossing. The upgrade of permanent traffic signals for the West Elloe and Woolram Wygate junctions will also be finalised. Work will continue on the westside and eastside footway and drainage for Phase 4, and signs and street lighting works will be completed across all phases.
Current traffic restrictions and closures are in place for several phases. Phase 3, from Park Road to Woolram Wygate, will remain under a one-way system northbound on Pinchbeck Road until mid-November, with Woolram Wygate closed 24/7 due to its proximity to the level crossing. A diversion route is in operation via Park Road / Pennygate / Woolram Wygate. Phase 3/4, from Woolram Wygate to Hospital Road, also has a northbound one-way system on Pinchbeck Road, with access to the hospital maintained from the north. This phase is expected to have restrictions until mid-December, with diversions via Pinchbeck Road / Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / Holbeach Road / West Elloe Avenue. Additionally, Phase A and Phase B, both running from south West Elloe Avenue to King’s Road and West Elloe Avenue junction to King’s Road respectively, will experience road closures from 6pm to 6am until late November, with extensive diversion routes in place.
Upcoming traffic restrictions include Phase 4, from Woolram Wygate to Hospital Road, which will see a northbound one-way system on Pinchbeck Road and a 3-way system at the Hospital Road junction. Access to the hospital from the north will be maintained. Phase C, from Woolram Wygate junction to Fern Drive, will be subject to road closures from 6pm to 6am until late November. Diversion routes are detailed for these upcoming phases.
The project is divided into distinct phases for daytime and night-time works. Daytime phases include Phase 1 (West Elloe Avenue to King’s Road), Phase 2 (West Elloe Avenue to Park Road), Phase 3 (Park Road to Beck Road), Phase 4 (Beck Road to Hospital Road), and Phase 5 (Hospital Road junction). Night-time phases encompass Phase A (King’s Road to West Elloe Avenue Closure), Phase B (West Elloe Avenue to Woolram Wygate), Phase C (Woolram Wygate to Fern Drive), Phase D (Fern Drive to Hospital Road), and Phase E (Hospital Road to Enterprise Way).
