Plans to revitalise Daventry town centre, including enhanced public spaces and new leisure opportunities, are set to be reviewed by West Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet.
A comprehensive masterplan outlining a long-term vision for Daventry town centre's evolution is due for consideration by West Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet. Developed through engagement with residents, businesses, and community groups, the plan proposes improvements to public spaces, enhanced walking and cycling routes, stronger connections to green spaces, and initiatives to attract more people to the town centre.
A key proposal within the masterplan is the creation of a significant new play destination at New Street Recreation Ground. This scheme is envisioned to include a variety of play equipment, natural play features, landscaping, and improved facilities, aiming to establish a new attraction for both local residents and visitors.
The masterplan also identifies opportunities to enhance key areas within the town centre, fostering welcoming environments that support local businesses and provide spaces for community gatherings and events. Feedback from local consultations highlighted a demand for more family-friendly facilities, greener spaces, better connectivity, and an improved town centre experience, all of which have informed the current proposals.
The masterplan will serve as a framework for future investment and project development in the town centre. Individual projects will undergo further design, consultation, and approval processes before implementation.
“
"Daventry is a fantastic town with a strong sense of community and a proud heritage. This masterplan sets out a positive vision for the future and identifies opportunities to make the town centre even more attractive, welcoming and enjoyable."
“
"We've listened carefully to local people throughout the process and many of the ideas in the plan, including proposals for a new destination play area, have come directly from what residents told us they wanted to see."
“
"While this is a long-term vision, it gives us a clear direction and puts us in a strong position to attract investment that can help bring these ideas to life."
The full masterplan is available as part of the Cabinet papers ahead of the meeting scheduled for 10 November. If approved, the masterplan will guide future funding bids, investment opportunities, and regeneration projects, with further consultation planned as individual proposals are developed.
