West Northamptonshire Council's Cabinet will review two new masterplans next week aimed at regenerating and investing in Northampton and Daventry town centres.

West Northamptonshire Council is set to consider two ambitious long-term visions for the regeneration of Northampton and Daventry town centres at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 10 November. These masterplans outline collaborative efforts to enhance the vibrancy and attractiveness of both locations.
The proposals, developed following extensive public consultation with residents, businesses, and stakeholders, prioritise improvements to public spaces, support for leisure and cultural activities, and the attraction of new investment. This initiative marks the first phase of a renewed focus by the council on driving joint development across its four market towns, with future plans for Towcester and Brackley also in development.
For Northampton, the masterplan builds upon existing regeneration schemes like Greyfriars, Four Waterside, and Marefair. The focus is on creating a well-connected, walkable town, fostering business growth, and celebrating its cultural heritage.
The Daventry Town Centre Masterplan highlights the town's strengths and proposes ideas to draw more visitors. Key suggestions include enhancing public spaces, leisure facilities, walking and cycling routes, supporting independent businesses, and improving links to Daventry Country Park. A significant feature is the proposed destination play area and improved recreation facilities at New Street Recreation Ground, directly addressing feedback from local families and young people.

"Northampton and Daventry are both distinctive places with rich histories and exciting futures. These masterplans, shaped with the feedback of our partners and residents, help us build on those strengths, creating town centres that are welcoming, sustainable and fit for future generations. "While the plans don't commit us to specific projects at this stage, they provide a clear roadmap for future opportunities and will help us attract investment that foster opportunity, strengthen local businesses, supports jobs and thriving communities. “This is the beginning of a renewed focus on all four of our unique market towns, and by setting out clear ambitions for Daventry and Northampton now, we are creating a framework that will help drive future development and investment across the area, with proposals for Towcester and Brackley due to follow in the future."

The council will now proceed with design plans and explore funding opportunities, collaborating with communities, stakeholders, and delivery partners to advance priority projects in both town centres. The full masterplans are available on the agenda for the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 10 November 2026, 6:00 pm.
