West Nottinghamshire College has achieved the coveted ‘Gold College of Excellence’ status for the third year in a row, awarded by leading UK destination spa, Ragdale Hall Spa. This accolade highlights the college's high standards in beauty therapy training and its dedication to preparing students for successful careers in the industry.
The prestigious award, reviewed annually, recognises colleges that demonstrate excellence in teaching, foster strong industry relationships, and are committed to equipping students with the necessary skills and experience for employment. The continued success reflects a valuable partnership that generates significant opportunities for students.
As part of this partnership, five students will visit Ragdale Hall Spa on 24 November to explore its facilities, meet professional therapists, witness treatment demonstrations, and learn about career prospects at the spa, which has previously employed graduates from the college.
Further collaborative activities include a virtual careers presentation in January during the college’s employability week, offering insights into working at the spa. Level 3 beauty therapy students will also have opportunities for residential work experience. Additionally, college teachers are invited to an enrichment event in February to experience treatments and enhance their industry knowledge.
Amy Stirland-Fell, programme area leader for hairdressing, beauty therapy and make-up artistry, expressed her delight: “We’re absolutely delighted to have achieved Gold College of Excellence status for the third year running. It’s wonderful recognition of the high standards we maintain and the strong relationship we’ve developed with Ragdale Hall Spa over many years. Our partnership gives our students opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom, and we’ve had students progress into employment at Ragdale Hall Spa.”
Lynne-Marie Benzie, training and development supervisor at Ragdale Hall Spa, commented on the award: “West Notts has been awarded Gold College of Excellence status due to the tutors’ ongoing dedication to their students’ skills and progression into industry, by ensuring all opportunities are embraced through continued communication with Ragdale Hall Spa. Each year we offer students a career presentation along with the opportunity to visit Ragdale Hall Spa.”
The Gold College of Excellence scheme aims to support the next generation of beauty professionals by strengthening the links between education and employment. This award underscores the successful, long-standing relationship between West Nottinghamshire College and Ragdale Hall Spa.
