Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust has successfully retained its Veteran Aware Trust accreditation, underscoring its ongoing dedication to the healthcare needs of veterans and their families.

The reaccreditation acknowledges the Trust's efforts in improving healthcare access and outcomes for the Armed Forces community. This recognition highlights the work of dedicated Armed Forces Champions and staff across the organisation.
Initiatives developed by the Trust to support veterans and military families include identifying Armed Forces status among patients, providing specialised staff training, signposting to relevant support services, and acknowledging the contributions of veterans, reservists, and military families within its workforce.
This renewed accreditation also serves as a platform to enhance support across the wider Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals Group, by consolidating expertise and best practices from both organisations.
“

"One of the real strengths of working as a Group is the opportunity to bring together the knowledge, experience and good practice that already exist across both organisations. Our Veteran Aware programme is a great example of this. Across our Group, we are committed to ensuring that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families are recognised, understood and supported, both as people who use our services and as valued members of our workforce. I am delighted that Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust has been successfully reaccredited as a Veteran Aware Trust. This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the hard work and continued commitment of our Armed Forces Champions and colleagues. A huge thank you to everyone involved."

Nigel Lee · Group Chief Strategy and Integration Officer and Executive Lead for Armed Forces and Veterans
Since the formation of the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals Group in April 2026, both trusts have collaborated to bolster support for the Armed Forces community. The reaccreditation establishes a robust foundation for continued joint working.
Looking ahead, Nigel Lee stated: “Becoming a Group gives us the opportunity to build on this strong foundation. By bringing together our Armed Forces networks, connecting champions from both organisations and strengthening training and communications, we can continue to improve the support we offer to our Armed Forces community. No member of the Armed Forces community should experience disadvantage when accessing healthcare or working within our organisations. We want to make sure we listen, understand and respond to the experiences and needs of those who have served, and of their families.”
