“"The podcasts are a new way to help people discover the stories from our district. They show how we are caring for our collections and sharing them in ways that connect with people where they already are, in their local library and on their phones through the podcast. Projects like this help us reach new audiences and make sure the history of Cannock Chase is understood and valued by future generations."

The Cannock Chase District Council has launched the second series of its podcast, the Cannock Chase Collections Podcast, featuring a Halloween special with local ghostly tales and historical events.
The new, six-episode series builds on the success of the first, utilising interviews, archive material, and local knowledge to delve into the people, places, and events that have shaped the district. The launch episode included stories from Four Crosses, the Palmer poisonings, and a 19th-century local murder.
Further episodes will explore Beaudesert Hall with stories of the Dancing Marquis, the history of Hednesford Town Football Club with the club’s commentator, and the Commonwealth War Graves on Cannock Chase. The series also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the team's favourite objects and their stories.
This podcast is part of the Community Wellbeing Team's initiative to open up the district’s heritage collections and find new ways to share Cannock Chase’s story. By combining different voices and memories, it aims to offer new perspectives on familiar places.
In parallel, the team is collaborating with community-managed libraries across the district to create special Remembrance displays, focusing on local war memorials and the individuals commemorated. These displays will be available in libraries from November.
The first series of the podcast is currently available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. More information can be found on the Creative Chase website at www.creativechase.co.uk.
