The S278 Creswell Grove scheme is nearing completion, with final works focusing on constructing a new pedestrian refuge on the A5013 Eccleshall Road, east of the M6. This addition, part of the scheme's planning conditions, aims to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.
Temporary traffic signals will be in place on Eccleshall Road from 2nd November to 14th November for the installation of the new refuge. Following this, final works on the M6 Junction 14 roundabout, including kerb improvements and carriageway resurfacing, are set to begin on 22nd November. Overnight resurfacing is planned for the 25th and 26th November, with signed diversions via the A34 in place during overnight partial closures of the roundabout.
The overall scheme, funded by developer Strawsons Holding Limited and delivered by Alto Construct, includes a new priority junction on A5013 Creswell Grove, an additional traffic lane on Creswell Grove, a new puffin crossing on A5013, and improvements to pedestrian and cycle facilities. Works commenced on 5th May 2026 and are expected to be completed by the end of January 2027.
The final resurfacing works on A5013 Creswell Grove require overnight closures from 19th to 23rd October 2026. A full road closure on the west side of M6 J14 will be in effect from 10pm on 19th October until 6am on 20th October, and repeated nightly until 6am on 24th October. The A5013 will reopen for eastbound traffic during the day.
From 18th November 2026 for approximately four weeks, A5013 Eccleshall Road will operate under temporary traffic signals. Further works at the M6 Junction 14 circulatory access are scheduled for 11th January 2027, primarily involving night works.
The council stresses that the safety of road users and the workforce is paramount. Disruptions are expected, and the public is thanked for their patience. Drivers are urged to comply with traffic management measures and keep children away from the worksite.
