Organised by the Rugby Indian Association, the event ran from 2pm to 7pm and featured dozens of market stalls selling Indian food and drink, alongside traditional crafts and artefacts.
Diwali, celebrated globally by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains, marks new beginnings and the triumph of light over darkness. A highlight of the celebrations was a Lantern Parade through the town centre, led by dhol players and joined by Coventry's Scottish Pipe Band.
The parade concluded on High Street, where the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Nooria Sayani, switched on the Diwali lights. She described the event as a 'fantastic example of our community coming together to share culture, friendship and joy'.
“"The colourful performances, lantern procession and festive atmosphere created a truly memorable occasion. It was an honour to join the celebrations and switch on the Diwali lights as we marked the Festival of Lights together."
Cllr Ish Mistry, an organiser, praised the support received, stating: 'This was a truly amazing event, generating significant footfall for the town centre while bringing people together and creating a real feel-good factor across Rugby.'
He added: 'It demonstrated what can be achieved when communities, volunteers and organisations work together. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our volunteers and performers, as well as Rugby Borough Council and Asda for their valued support.'
