The city's work, including the opening of an 18-bed unit with wraparound support, was referenced at the summit. Cllr Naeem Akhtar, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, welcomed the funding and highlighted the council's swift action to provide accommodation. "Our outreach team work five days a week out on the streets and are there to offer people a route out of homelessness," he stated. "It’s not only important that we can signpost people into accommodation but also to offer other support."
The outreach team reportedly finds between five and 20 people on any given morning, with approximately one-third only found once. Cllr Akhtar added, "The accommodation offers people the chance for stability and support."
Coventry City Council received £815,000 from the government to help provide a route off the streets for everyone by Christmas. The funding also aims to prevent individuals from becoming homeless in the first place.
In the financial year 2025/26, the council and its partners prevented or relieved homelessness for 1,255 households. Furthermore, since September 2024, the Local Authority has successfully reduced the number of households in temporary accommodation, ensuring no families with dependent children are placed in Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
Data from 28 November 2025 indicated 1,189 families and single people were in temporary accommodation in Coventry. This figure decreased to 882 earlier this month, marking a reduction of 307 households.
