The celebrations, organised by Kidderminster Town Council and the Kidderminster–Husum Twinning Association, brought together residents and visitors to commemorate five decades of friendship and cultural exchange. The weekend commenced on Friday evening with a welcome reception at Kidderminster Town Hall, followed by a guided tour of the historic building.
Saturday evening featured a special anniversary concert at the Town Hall, showcasing a variety of musical performances from local groups including Farefeld, Jasmine and Zachary from Wyre Forest Young Voices, The Shanty Crew, KODYS, Kidderminster Valentines, and Steve Worley of Beatlesque. The event highlighted the strong community spirit fostered by the twinning relationship.
The festivities continued on Sunday with an anniversary lunch at Kidderminster Golf Club. During the lunch, commemorative plaques were exchanged between representatives of Kidderminster and Husum, symbolising the enduring friendship and the 50th anniversary of the Twinning Charter.
Throughout the weekend, visitors participated in activities organised by the Twinning Association, such as crocus planting, a church service, and a traditional skittles evening, reinforcing the shared experiences that have defined the twinning over the years.
“"Whilst we are marking 50 years since the official signing of the Twinning Charter, the friendship between Kidderminster and Husum stretches back much further. It is a relationship that has been nurtured through decades of visits, exchanges and shared experiences. I think that is what makes occasions like this so special. They remind us that twinning is not simply an agreement between two towns, but a friendship between people."
Mayor of Kidderminster, Councillor Shazu Miah, expressed his delight in welcoming the delegation. He extended his sincere thanks to all involved in making the weekend a success, including the Kidderminster–Husum Twinning Association, the Twinning Celebration Working Group, the Town Council, volunteers, and performers. The Mayor concluded by toasting future years of friendship between the two towns.
