This year's theme, "Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change", emphasises the importance of listening to individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges and using their insights to drive positive change. The Council recognises that good mental health is crucial for thriving communities and continues to collaborate with local partners, health services, voluntary organisations, and community groups to support residents' wellbeing and combat the stigma associated with seeking help.
Residents are encouraged to connect with friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues, initiate conversations about mental health, and explore the available local support. The day's objective is to increase global awareness of mental health issues and mobilise action.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council, stated: "Mental health is an important part of our overall health and wellbeing. Through supporting World Mental Health Day, we want to encourage people to talk openly about mental health, seek support when they need it, and help create a city where everyone feels heard, valued and supported. The 2026 theme reminds us that lived experiences matter. By listening to those voices, we can better understand mental health challenges and work together to make meaningful improvements for our communities."
