The Corby Community Diagnostic Centre and Northampton General Hospital's robotic surgery team are being showcased in a national NHS campaign aimed at improving patient care and reducing waiting times.

The campaign, titled 'NHS Fit for the Future', features across various channels including YouTube, social media, Google advertising, and radio stations. Filming for the Northamptonshire segment took place in Corby and Northampton on September 3-4.
In Corby, Claire Day, Community Diagnostic Centre Programme Lead, and Tom Ward, Respiratory Consultant, were interviewed about the impact of the £11.7m centre, which opened in June 2025 and delivers over 90,000 tests annually. The centre, also known as Broadleaf House, offers faster access to CT, MRI, ultrasound, echocardiography, and blood tests in a convenient location, open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm for pre-booked appointments.
Tom Ward noted the centre's role in developing new pathways for conditions like childhood asthma and breathlessness, aiming to reduce hospital visits. The Corby CDC supports GPs and hospital teams in diagnosing a range of conditions earlier.
At Northampton General Hospital, Mr Jamil Ahmed, Deputy Director of Medical Education and lead for robotic colorectal surgery, and Sathian Kizhakkinayil, Surgical Care Practitioner, highlighted the contribution of robotic-assisted surgery. They emphasised its role in making patient care safer, reducing hospital stays, and positioning University Hospitals of Northamptonshire as a leading UK centre for this work.
“

"Robotic surgery is a perfect balance showing how technology combined with human skill can make a real difference to patient outcomes. It is very satisfying to see a patient recover quickly from robotic surgery and to know that you have played a part in helping to deliver them from a very serious illness like cancer."

Mr Hemant Nemade, Medical Director of University Hospitals of Northamptonshire, expressed pleasure in showcasing the work at both the Corby CDC and the robotic surgery teams. He thanked Claire Day, Tom Ward, Jamil Ahmed, and Sathian Kizhakkinayil for their collaboration with the filming team. The featured teams will be part of the national campaign from this week.
