South Derbyshire District Council has announced that ten brand new, energy-efficient homes are ready to be let to applicants on the council's housing register.

The new homes, built by Taylor Wimpey, are one-bedroom apartments located at New House Farm in Mickleover. Situated close to local amenities and transport links, these properties are designed to offer secure, warm, and modern living spaces. The apartments on Kinder Drive and Beamish Close feature traditional construction methods enhanced with Solar PV Panels to help reduce electricity bills by generating renewable energy. With high insulation and gas central heating, the properties are built for comfort and longevity.
Offered at social rent levels, these affordable homes aim to address the need for suitable accommodation for local people, thereby reducing housing inequality. They will be allocated through the Council’s system to individuals on the housing register with a demonstrated housing need.
“

"The acquisition of these homes forms part of a wider investment programme being delivered through our Housing and Health Strategy. The strategy commits to delivering new Council homes each year, helping to replace properties lost through the Right to Buy scheme, while also increasing the overall supply of affordable housing across the District. I’ve been lucky enough to visit these properties with members of our Strategic Housing Team and I was delighted to see the fantastic build standard, not to mention the space and great position they are in too. I hope the residents who move into these apartments are just as delighted with their new home."

Councillor Mick Mulgrew · Vice Chair of the Housing and Community Services Committee at South Derbyshire District Council
These new homes align with the Government’s Future Homes Standard, due in March 2027, which mandates carbon reduction measures and energy-saving technology in all new builds. This initiative supports the Council's commitment to tackling fuel poverty and increasing affordable housing supply.

"It's great to reach this stage of the project and get these homes ready for let. We've been working closely with the team at South Derbyshire District Council to make sure we are providing high-quality, energy efficient homes that are built to last. We build hundreds of properties on sites like this, but some stand out to you; knowing these homes will go to people in need on the housing register is a real bonus."
