Students aged 16 to 19 at Walton Hall Academy are now utilising a new learning hub in Stafford town centre, following a £1 million investment by Staffordshire County Council.

The new facility, situated in Staffordshire Place 2 on Tipping Street, offers a modern environment designed to foster independence and essential life skills. It features six new classrooms equipped with contemporary furniture and IT, a reception area, kitchen and dining facilities, intervention rooms, toilets, and a nurse's room.
Its town centre location is intended to provide students with enhanced opportunities for community-based learning. This includes practical experience using public transport, visiting local shops, and engaging with community facilities, all aimed at developing the practical skills necessary for adult life.
“

"I'm thrilled to see the students settling in and enjoying their new learning hub and making the most of the opportunities it provides. The facility will help these young people develop confidence, independence and important life skills in a supportive environment, while giving them greater access to the community as they prepare for adult life. This project is part of our wider investment in education places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). In addition to this, we are also building a new special school, completing expansions at other special schools, and developing resource bases at mainstream schools to provide supported places for children with SEND."

Janet Higgins · Cabinet Member for Education and SEND at Staffordshire County Council
Julie Wood, Academy Principal, highlighted the significance of the facility, stating, "Flourish is much more than a building; it provides a real opportunity for young people with special educational needs. At Walton Hall, we believe that every student deserves access to experiences that prepare them for a happy, fulfilled and successful adult life. By creating a mature college environment in the heart of Stafford, we are providing our students with meaningful opportunities to develop independence, confidence and employability skills while continuing to receive the specialist support they need. We are incredibly grateful to Staffordshire County Council and everyone who has been involved in turning our vision into reality. It has certainly exceeded our expectations, and the positive impact it has already had on the students is evident."
