A new £25 million NHS Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is set to open in Bilston, enhancing health outcomes for residents across Wolverhampton and Walsall.

The facility, a collaborative effort between City of Wolverhampton Council, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, the Black Country Integrated Care Board, and Walsall Council, has secured significant funding from NHS England. This initiative aims to improve access to essential diagnostic tests, complementing existing services at New Cross Hospital, Cannock Hospital, and Walsall Manor Hospital.
The new centre will be part of an enhanced health and wellbeing campus, integrating community diagnostic services with primary care, family support, and leisure facilities. This connected approach seeks to link diagnosis and treatment with prevention, early intervention, and physical activity, all situated in an accessible location near public transport improvements and Bilston’s bus and tram interchange.
Construction is anticipated to commence in mid-2027, with completion expected by the end of 2028. Councillor Stephen Simkins, Leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council, highlighted the CDC as a significant achievement for Bilston and Wolverhampton, underscoring the investment in a new health and wellbeing campus. He stated that the CDC will act as an anchor, transforming primary and community services and improving health outcomes.
