Erewash Borough Council is inviting residents and businesses to share their views on the future development of the borough as part of its Local Plan process.

The plan will outline how homes, jobs, services, and infrastructure will be delivered to meet current and future needs. The council is seeking approval for a public consultation on the next stage of the Local Plan, gathering feedback on its draft vision, objectives, planning policies, and supporting evidence.
The vision includes a commitment to deliver growth that will enhance and regenerate towns and villages, providing good homes, jobs, and a high standard of living. Key objectives aim for 1,500 of the 6,800 legally required new homes to be allocated to families on the housing waiting list, with each new home matched by a new job created locally.
Residents and businesses can comment on these proposals and contribute ideas for the borough's changes up to 2040. Information on the new Local Plan and its timeline is available on the council's local plan pages.
“

"It has always been our goal to deliver good quality homes for local people and their families. We want to hear your voice so we can best meet your needs in this vision. Your ideas about topics like infrastructure, affordability, and the future of our greenbelt are key to creating a good standard of living in our borough – no one understands life in Erewash better than its residents."

Councillor Curtis Howard · Lead Member for Regeneration and Planning at Erewash Borough Council
The public consultation is proposed to run on the council’s website from 10 November until 22 December 2026. Printed copies will be available at Long Eaton Town Hall, Ilkeston Town Hall, and local libraries. Those requiring the document in an alternative format can contact planningpolicy@erewash.gov.uk.
The final consultation stage, which will detail specific sites to meet local needs, is scheduled for May 2028.
