Talented amateur photographers have been recognised for their captivating images of Charnwood’s parks, woodlands, nature reserves, and wildlife. The Charnwood Borough Council's competition, which ran over the summer, attracted over 100 entries showcasing the area's green spaces.
Winners and runners-up were celebrated at an event held at Loughborough Town Hall on 12 October. Cllr Anne Gray, the Council’s Lead Member for Waste, Open Spaces and Leisure Facilities, praised the high standard of entries, noting that the competition encourages residents to explore and appreciate the borough's open spaces.
The competition featured three categories: Young Photographer, Open Category, and Wonderful Wildlife. idverde, the Council's partner for open space management, supported the event by providing Love2Shop vouchers for the winners and runners-up.
Doreen Watson from Rothley won the Open Category with a photograph of the sunrise over Cossington Lock. In the Wonderful Wildlife category, Jamie Willis secured first prize with an image of a fox amongst bluebells in Burleigh Wood.
The Young Photographer category, open to residents aged 16 and under, was won by six-year-old Matteo Pouzet for his photograph of the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park.
The full list of winners includes Andrea Myring and Tony Chalcroft (Open Category runners-up), Gideon Jones and Michael Belson (Wonderful Wildlife runners-up), and Oliver Burton and Sophia (Young Photographer runners-up).
