Residents in Leicester are invited to a free community event on Saturday 24 October to learn about stroke risk and take steps to protect their heart and brain health.

The Stroke Prevention and Cardiovascular Health Community Day, hosted by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL), will provide attendees with free health checks and the opportunity to consult with NHS specialists. The event aims to educate people on how to reduce their risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease, with a particular focus on managing risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and atrial fibrillation (AF).
Taking place from 12pm to 4pm at the RCCG Green Pastures Parish, 101 Jarrom Street, Leicester, the event coincides with World Stroke Day. Visitors can expect to receive practical advice on lifestyle changes that can make a significant difference to long-term health. Information stands will also showcase local support services available across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.
Stroke survivors will share their personal experiences of stroke, recovery, and rehabilitation, offering valuable insights to attendees. Memory Masore, Stroke Advanced Clinical Practitioner at UHL, emphasised the importance of understanding and managing risk factors. "We want to empower people with the knowledge and confidence to understand their health," she stated. "By bringing experts and services together in the community, we hope to make it easier for people to access information, ask questions and learn about the small changes that can make a big difference to their long-term health."
This initiative is part of UHL's ongoing commitment to preventative healthcare and working closely with local communities to raise awareness of conditions impacting health and wellbeing. The event is free to attend.
