“"Remembrance Day is a chance to stop and reflect on the sacrifices made by those we have lost, and to show our gratitude to members of our armed forces who are currently serving in conflicts across the globe. Our Coalville Remembrance parade is always very well support by the public, and I am sure we will see a great turnout again this year. I’d also like to offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated handmade poppies for our displays. The response has been incredible."

North West Leicestershire will mark Remembrance Day on Sunday 8 November with services, a parade, and a significant display of over 8,000 knitted poppies.
The district will remember and reflect on the sacrifices of fallen soldiers during the annual Remembrance Day service and parade. This year, two large displays, featuring over 8,000 knitted and crocheted poppies, will be showcased on Memorial Square in Coalville and at Coalville Library.
These poppies have been donated by residents from across the district, including local school children, as part of the council’s Project Poppy campaign. The Coalville Remembrance event, organised by North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) and the Coalville Remembrance Partnership, is consistently well-supported by the public.
To facilitate the parade along Hotel Street and High Street, a road closure will be in effect on Sunday 8 November from 10am to 12pm. Road users are advised to plan their journeys and use alternative routes during this period.
During the two-minute silence, poppy petals will be released from the top of the Memorial Clock Tower in tribute to those who have served and continue to serve in the armed forces.
Other events marking Remembrance include the official launch of the Poppy Appeal by the Royal British Legion at the War Memorial in Coalville on Saturday 24 October at 11am. Information on additional parades and services held across North West Leicestershire over the weekend is available from parish councils or local churches.
NWLDC has also collaborated with town and parish councils and local businesses to add poppy ground stencils in communities throughout the district to raise awareness for the Poppy Appeal. Further information can be found on the council's website at nwleics.gov.uk/remembrance.
