Students from Loughborough College have marked a significant milestone by celebrating the 100th birthday of Cissy, a resident at Rose Cottage Rest Home in Mountsorrel. The visit saw students Ruby Liggins, Ellie Byrne, and Isabella Dance, who are studying Level 3 Health and Social Care, present Cissy with over 100 handmade birthday cards and a unique blanket knitted by college staff member Susan Bowley.
Sharon Geary, Curriculum Head for Caring Services, also attended the event. She expressed pride in the students' actions, stating, “We are all so proud of our students for taking the time to visit Cissy and deliver 112 beautiful handmade birthday cards and a hand knitted blanket. They represented the department and the College brilliantly. Ruby, Ellie, and Isabella were polite, friendly, confident, and demonstrated their community spirit and compassion in a truly special way.”
“"The students were amazing, delivering a bundle of beautiful birthday cards and a lovely hand-knitted blanket. Above all, it was a very kind visit, and it meant so much to Cissy and us all."
The visit to Rose Cottage is part of a broader range of community engagement activities undertaken by the Caring Services department. Earlier, Curriculum Head Sharon raised over £630 for Samaritans through a sponsored Dawn Walk. Additionally, students participated in Youngminds UK’s Hello Yellow day, engaging in games and activities focused on improving mental health and fostering conversations about wellbeing.
