A new parish council for Market Harborough is set to be established in April 2027, following a decision by Harborough District Council.

Residents of Market Harborough will soon have a dedicated parish council, with Harborough District Council approving proposals for its creation. The new council will be established on 1 April 2027, following extensive consultation and a referendum that showed significant public backing.
The final consultation revealed that 93.4% of respondents supported the establishment of a parish council for the town. This strong endorsement has led to the agreement on warding arrangements, which will define how 16 parish councillors will represent different areas of Market Harborough.
The new parish council aims to strengthen local representation and provide residents with a greater voice in community matters. It is anticipated that the parish precept will result in an average increase of approximately £18 per year for a Band D property in Council Tax.
