Firefighters from Bourne Fire Station are preparing to climb the equivalent height of Mount Everest on Sunday 13 December, undertaking an ambitious ladder-climbing challenge to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The crew will attempt to scale the world's highest mountain, standing at 8,849 metres, by repeatedly ascending and descending a 13.5-metre fire service ladder. The challenge involves twelve firefighters completing over 600 ladder climbs, requiring significant stamina and resilience.
The event, taking place at Bourne Fire Station, is open to the public and encourages support and donations. A bake sale and 'brew with a crew' will also be available throughout the day.
“

"We always try and do at least one fundraising event a year to support the Fire Fighters Charity and local good causes. This year we wanted to do something a bit different, and after a vote climbing Everest on ladders came out on top!"

Alex Parkin · Watch Manager at Bourne Fire Station
Alex Parkin, Watch Manager at Bourne Fire Station, highlighted the charity's vital work, stating, “The Fire Fighters charity does such fantastic work for serving and former firefighters, as well as their families. It’s everything from physical rehabilitation to mental health and wellbeing support. Several of our crew have benefited from their services over the years, so it’s only right that we do our bit and give back.”
Mr Parkin also expressed gratitude for the local community's consistent support and encouraged residents to attend and cheer on the crew. "Our local community are always fantastic in their support whenever we run fundraising, recruitment and station open events. We’d love to see them getting behind us and popping down to the fire station to cheer us on again. As well as the effort, we’ll have hot and cold drinks and cakes on sale so there’ll be something for everyone."
