Major improvements are set to begin on Freiston Road in Boston later this month, with Lincolnshire County Council undertaking a significant resurfacing project.

A substantial road improvement scheme is scheduled for Freiston Road in Boston, commencing on Monday 26 October and expected to last for up to three weeks. The project aims to enhance road conditions, providing a safer and smoother journey for all road users.
The works, which will see the road fully rebuilt, are described by Cllr David East, executive member for highways, as a crucial investment in maintaining the county's road network. Approximately 1,300 tonnes of material will be used, extending the road's life and reducing future repair needs.
Cllr Sam French, county councillor for Skirbeck, highlighted the scheme's importance for travellers in the area, noting the road's current wear and tear. He expressed satisfaction with the investment, anticipating a safer, smoother, and more reliable route for residents, businesses, and visitors.
The project will cover Freiston Road from its junction with Spilsby Road to the junction of Church Road and Vauxhall Road. Traffic management will involve daytime road closures: from 7:30am to 6pm on weekdays during the first week, and from 9am to 3pm on weekdays during weeks two and three. Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout.
A diversion route will be in place via Church Road, Skirbeck Road, South End, and the A16, and vice versa. This initiative is part of a wider £12 million investment by the county council into maintaining Lincolnshire's strategically important roads.
The council's Strategic Route Surfacing (SRS) programme for the 2026/27 financial year includes improvements to other key routes such as the A15, A151, A57, A1031, A606, and B1174, all vital for connectivity across the county.
