Lincolnshire will host the national Baton of Hope tour on 17 September 2027, a campaign focused on suicide prevention and raising awareness across the county.

The Baton of Hope, a national campaign dedicated to preventing suicide, raising awareness, and saving lives, is set to visit Lincolnshire next autumn. The tour aims to initiate crucial conversations about suicide prevention by travelling to schools, workplaces, towns, and cities across the country.
During its time in the county, the Baton will be carried hand-to-hand along a local route, accompanied by individuals actively involved in suicide prevention efforts within their communities. Lincolnshire County Council is among the many local organisations supporting the tour.
Jenni Swift, founder of the charity Evelyn’s Butterfly Effect and the local organiser, expressed the significance of bringing the Baton to Lincolnshire. She highlighted the challenges faced by residents in the geographically vast county, including isolation, loneliness, and barriers to accessing support, as well as the persistent stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.
“

"The Baton of Hope offers a chance to change that — to spark conversations, raise awareness and remind people that hope and help are always within reach."

Jenni Swift · Founder of Evelyn’s Butterfly Effect
Cllr Steve Clegg, Executive Councillor for Adult Care and Health, emphasised the tour's role in fostering open and honest conversations that can save lives. He stated that the tour aims to unite communities and reassure people that seeking support is acceptable.
“

"Every suicide is a devastating loss. That’s why we’re working hard to ensure people can get the support they need. The HAY Lincolnshire website offers a wide range of help for those experiencing suicidal thoughts or feelings. There’s also support for those affected by suicide, and advice on how to have a potentially life-saving conversation with someone you’re worried about. Reaching out can save lives."
