Lincolnshire is participating in the national Cycle to School Week, encouraging pupils, schools, and families to embrace active travel and reduce car use.

The week-long campaign aims to highlight the advantages of cycling to school and showcase initiatives already promoting active travel among young people in the county. A key event is Bling Your Bike Day, where schools involved in the Living Streets WOW Walk to School programme can win a Scootfit Day by decorating their bikes.
The county's Active Travel Team will visit four schools to offer free bike marking sessions. These sessions will register bikes on the UK's national cycle registration scheme, aiding in the protection and recovery of stolen bicycles. The initiative also underscores the ongoing expansion of the WOW Walk to School programme within Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire County Council is providing a limited number of schools with fully funded places for the year-long challenge, which rewards children for walking, cycling, or scooting to school. Participating schools have reported an increase in active travel and a decrease in cars outside school gates. Schools not eligible for funded places can still join the broader WOW programme.
The week also celebrates the success of Bikeability training across Lincolnshire. During the 2025/26 academic year, 5,488 young people aged seven to 18 completed the training, with 4,467 undertaking Level 2, gaining essential skills for riding on local roads.

"Cycle to School Week is a chance to get more young people thinking about how they travel to school and the benefits that come with being active every day. We've already got some fantastic work happening in schools across Lincolnshire through programmes like WOW and Bikeability, and this week is a great opportunity to showcase that."

Councillor Natalie Oliver · Executive member for Children's Services at Lincolnshire County Council
“

"Learning to cycle safely, building confidence on the roads and choosing active travel where possible can have a lasting impact on young people. It can also help cut congestion outside schools and make those journeys safer for everyone. I hope schools, pupils and parents make the most of what's on offer this week and get involved."
