The event, set across 3.75 acres next to South Kesteven District Council’s Wyndham Park, features 75 heritage-variety apple, plum, and cherry trees. The orchard was planted to commemorate the role British and American Airborne forces stationed in South Kesteven played in Operation Market Garden during World War II.
The district council leases the site from the National Trust and contributed to the orchard and information board costs as part of its military heritage commitments. Visitors to the Apple Day event can taste local apple varieties and apple bakes, as well as make their own juice. There are apple trails, crafts, and puzzles for youngsters.
Organised by the Wyndham Park Forum, the event is open from 10am to 3:30pm. Admission is £2. In the event of bad weather, the event will be held in the Bowls Club pavilion, next to the café.
