A delegation from Les Pavillons-sous-Bois, a town located east of Paris, recently met with councillors and staff at Brackley Town Hall. The visit, arranged by the Brackley European Association, marks a renewed effort to strengthen the twinning relationship established in March 1972.
During their three-day visit, councillors and members of the Les Pavillons-sous-Bois twinning committee, Faris and Jean-Claude, toured Brackley, met local representatives, and explored the town's history. Their itinerary included visits to Silverstone Circuit and the Haas Formula One facilities, appealing to their shared interest in motorsport.
Following a guided tour of the historic Brackley Town Hall, the visitors presented the Brackley Town Council with a hardback book detailing 100 years of Les Pavillons-sous-Bois' history. Faris, 19, Chairman of the twinning committee, read a message from the book, highlighting the engagement of young people in local government.
Discussions during coffee and cake provided insights into the French local government and financial systems, with Jean-Claude, a finance specialist, detailing the differences and benefits compared to the UK approach. The visitors' proficiency in English was noted with appreciation.
The visit concluded with expressions of gratitude from Brackley Town Council, hoping the meeting will be the first of many to reinforce the renewed relationship. The enthusiasm for future exchanges involving young people, families, sports, and community groups was particularly encouraging.
