Warwickshire County Council is proposing a second phase of 'School Keep Clear' restrictions across Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough to enhance road safety around schools.

The council's ongoing commitment to improving road safety near educational establishments will see changes to waiting and stopping restrictions for vehicles. While some schools may already have these markings, this scheme aims to formalise them, enabling enforcement support and potentially introducing new restrictions or modifying existing ones.
These proposals are designed to keep school entrances clear, maintain visibility for all road users, and reduce conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians, especially during busy periods. Once enforceable, uniformed Civil Enforcement Officers will patrol designated school sites to monitor compliance and support safe, legal parking. Vehicles found in contravention may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

"WCC recognises the importance of safe and legal parking near schools. Unsafe, inconsiderate parking is still an ongoing concern for, parents, carers, school's, residents and the wider school community we want to encourage and facilitate a safer access to and from their school setting. While we accept that sometimes this is unintentional, parking in “School Keep Clear” restrictions for just a moment can create unsafe conditions, reducing visibility, increasing congestion and making it harder for children to cross safely."

Cllr Stephen Shaw · Portfolio holder for Transport and Planning with Warwickshire County Council
Cllr Stephen Shaw added that the council continues to encourage parents and carers to park considerately a short walk away from the school, which also benefits air quality and children's physical health.
The scheme is supported by the Road Safety Education Team, which delivers Warwickshire’s Safe and Active Schools program. A copy of the plans and further information, titled 'Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough CPE Variation SKC2 2026', can be viewed online. The consultation runs from 30th October to 23rd November 2026.
Objections and representations must be made in writing to Communities Directorate, County Highways Minor Works, Shire Hall post room, Rear of Shire Hall, Northgate Street, Warwick, CV34 4RL, or emailed to chminorworks@warwickshire.gov.uk with the subject 'Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough CPE Variation SKC2 2026'. Objections and representations, including the objector's name, will normally be treated as public information.
Vehicles stopping in contravention of an enforceable School Keep Clear restriction may receive a £70 PCN, reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days. The established restriction hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Parking on double or single yellow lines will also be enforced under the same penalty structure.
