Ashfield District Council and its leisure contractor, Everyone Active, are celebrating five years of their partnership, which has seen a significant increase in resident engagement with local leisure facilities.

The collaboration, which began in 2021, manages leisure centres across the district, including those in Kirkby (opened 2022), Lammas, and Hucknall. Over the past five years, annual visits to these centres have grown by 61%, rising from 1.08 million in the first year to over 1.73 million by the end of year five.
The facilities have attracted a substantial membership base, with 9,220 individuals signed up for fitness and health programmes, and 3,384 young people participating in the swim school. The centres also actively support preventative and rehabilitation health initiatives, currently engaging 361 members through a GP referral scheme, which received 2,840 referrals in 2025/26. Notably, 51% of referred individuals remained active after three months.
The partnership has generated an estimated £6.3 million in social value for the local community. In 2025/26 alone, 480 hours of free community space were provided to support local groups, sports clubs, and health partners. The centres also welcomed 17,914 visits from people with disabilities.
“

"This partnership has led to significant health and wellbeing benefits for our residents. Each year we have seen more and more people get involved in our centres and make the most of all they have to offer, as well as enjoy the many events they play host to."
