The public has until noon on Friday, 16 October, to vote for their healthcare hero in the inaugural Moving to Excellence Awards, organised by the NHS Group serving Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

There is still time to vote for your healthcare hero in the Moving to Excellence Awards run by the NHS Group, which provides acute and community healthcare in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. The Public Recognition Award recognises teams or individuals who have made a remarkable contribution and show exceptional compassion and dedication in their role. Four finalists have been shortlisted, and it is now over to the public to choose their winner. You have until 12 noon on Friday 16 October to cast your vote online.
It is the first year that the NHS Group – the agreed alliance between Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (ShropCom) and The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) – has come together to celebrate its first awards evening. The Moving to Excellence Awards celebrate the outstanding dedication and commitment of staff and teams, and the work they do every day in hospitals and the wider community.
Ned Hobbs, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive (SaTH), said: “There is still time to vote for the Public Recognition Award winner. This is one of our most special awards because the winner will be chosen by our patients and communities. It is your chance to thank and celebrate the commitment, compassion and dedication shown every day by our colleagues and volunteers as they care for patients, families and our communities.” He also extended thanks to the sponsors: CPW, Edmond Shipway, Group Nexus, Key Construction, ModuleCo, OneRetail, SoftCat, SCC/HPE, System C and VINCI Building.
Here are the four finalists for the Public Recognition Award:
Fertility Team, SaTH: Provides exceptional care and support. During a critical medication crisis, the team secured treatment, rearranged appointments and created an additional theatre slot to ensure care continued without delay, demonstrating genuine compassion, empathy and kindness.
Jackie Garbett, Sister, ShropCom: An exceptional nurse, mentor and role model known for her kindness, knowledge and unwavering support. She has inspired and shaped the careers of countless nurses.
Palliative Care Team, SaTH: Provided extraordinary support, compassion and expertise to a family following a terminal cancer diagnosis, ensuring effective pain management and coordinating care. The team, particularly Heidi and Helen, helped provide dignity, comfort and peace.
Tracy Diver and Cheryl Jackson, Healthcare Assistants, SaTH: Provided outstanding care, compassion and dignity to a patient during the final days of his life, ensuring he felt respected and understood. Their support extended to his family.
The Annual Moving to Excellence Awards will take place on Friday 23 October 2026.
