Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is set to receive a new 240 square metre ophthalmic operating theatre and recovery area, with ModuleCo appointed as the contractor.

ModuleCo has been selected as the contractor for a new operating theatre at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). This development supports the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Community and Hospitals NHS Group's ongoing investment in modern healthcare facilities.
The new 240 square metre facility will feature a state-of-the-art ophthalmic operating theatre equipped with an Ultra Clean Ventilation (UCV) canopy. It will also include a dedicated two-bed recovery area for patients post-procedure.
Construction will utilise a modular approach, with approximately ninety percent of the work completed off-site. This method is designed to minimise disruption to patients and hospital staff. The project is anticipated to be completed in early 2027.
“

"We are delighted to be working with the Trust again to deliver this much-needed additional theatre capacity. We look forward to creating a facility that will support excellent patient care for many years to come."

Jonathan Brindley · Sales Director for ModuleCo
This new facility is expected to bolster the progress The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospital Trust (SaTH) is making in elective recovery. Last year, SaTH was recognised as the most improved Trust nationally for its 18-week referral to treatment times.
Groundworks have commenced on the construction site, which is located adjacent to Wards 38 and 39. These wards, also built by ModuleCo, were opened in December last year. Upon completion, the new theatre will be connected to these wards, enhancing collaboration between surgical and rehabilitation teams.

"We’re pleased to be working with ModuleCo on this exciting development following the successful delivery of our two new wards last year. The new theatre and recovery bays will allow us to continue building on the fantastic progress we are making in planned care, allowing more patients to receive much-needed surgery quicker, in a modern, purpose-built environment. I look forward to seeing the project take shape over the coming months."

Ned Hobbs · Group Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive (SaTH)
