Work to install a new signalled junction in Burton has progressed well, with temporary traffic lights now in place on Henhurst Hill, replacing the full road closure.

Staffordshire County Council is installing four-way traffic lights at the junction of Henhurst Hill with Postern Road and Hopley Road to improve safety and manage traffic flow. Over the past month, crews have completed road repairs and begun remodelling the bus stop to create resident parking spaces. New speed limit signs have also been installed, extending the 30mph limit along Henhurst Hill with a 40mph buffer zone.
Maintenance crews have also undertaken pothole repairs in the area during the closure, preventing future disruption. From Friday 9 October, the full road closure will be lifted, replaced by temporary traffic lights to allow traffic through while remaining work is completed. This change is also expected to aid traffic flow during the annual Screamfest event at National Forest Adventure Farm this month.
The £500,000 scheme is anticipated to be finished in approximately one month. Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting the scheme's response to local concerns about speeding and road safety. He highlighted the benefit of reopening the road while work continues and the proactive approach to completing pothole repairs.
Additionally, a new 7.5 tonne vehicle weight limit is now active along the B5017 from the Parkway roundabout to the Six Roads End junction with the A515 Draycott Cliff, and on the B5234 Newborough Road from Fiveways Roundabout to its junction with the A515. This measure addresses residents' feedback regarding noise disruption from HGVs, particularly at night. New signs are in place to inform drivers, with enforcement by Staffordshire Police. HGVs can still access Burton via the A38, A511, and A515.
