Men across North Warwickshire took advantage of a free prostate cancer blood testing event held on Thursday 24 September, with all available appointments fully booked.
The high demand highlights growing awareness of prostate health and the importance of early detection. Local men seized the opportunity to access a simple blood test that can help identify potential signs of prostate cancer. The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) screening session took place at Old Saltleians Rugby Club in Water Orton. The event was fully funded by North Warwickshire Borough Council's Health and Wellbeing Working Group, enabling eligible residents to access the potentially life-saving test free of charge.
The event screened 52 men, with the majority receiving reassuring results. Several attendees were advised to seek further medical guidance, demonstrating the value of early testing and helping people access care at the earliest opportunity. Delivered by the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust and supported by North Warwickshire Borough Council, the event provided local men with a quick and simple PSA blood test to help identify the overall health of their prostate and highlight any potential concerns at an early stage.
The event was open to men aged 40 and over, as well as men aged 35 and over who have a strong family history of prostate cancer and/or are from higher risk groups. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men and often shows no symptoms during its early stages. Early diagnosis can significantly improve treatment outcomes, making initiatives such as this an important part of supporting men's health across the borough.

"As a Council, we are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents, and it is encouraging to see so many people engaging with this initiative. We would like to thank everyone who attended, as well as the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust for delivering the testing service. The success of this event will help inform discussions about future opportunities to provide similar health screening initiatives across North Warwickshire."
