The City of Wolverhampton Council has announced the completion of ten two-bedroom and one three-bedroom council homes on the former Bilston tennis club site in Villiers Avenue, developed by Morro Partnerships.
The new homes are 'A' Rated and gas-free, featuring solar panels and constructed using timber frame methods to minimise carbon footprint and energy consumption. The development also includes a £620,000 grant from Homes England.
As part of the project, £40,000 has been allocated to improve tennis courts at East Park to compensate for the loss of the original courts.
Councillor Steve Evans, the council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing and Assets, stated that the project aligns with the council's strategy to revitalise disused sites and meet the increasing demand for housing. He highlighted the ongoing investment in Bilston, contributing to the town's growth.
“
"This is another example of the council’s strategy to bring small disused sites back into use for the benefit of our residents and communities. There is an increasing demand for housing and this forms part of our pipeline of new council properties we are developing to deliver more and better homes for local people in well-connected neighbourhoods across the city. Residents will not only benefit from these future-proofed homes, they will also reap the rewards of the significant investment already made in Bilston in recent years that is seeing the town flourish."
Gavin Ward, Morro Partnerships West Midlands Operations Director, emphasised the company's commitment to building homes that contribute to a better future. He noted that the Villiers Avenue development has transformed a neglected area into a welcoming neighbourhood with energy-efficient homes designed for lower running costs and reduced environmental impact.
“
"At Morro Partnerships, we believe every home we build should help create a better tomorrow for the people who live there and the community around them. Villiers Avenue shows what that looks like in practice. A forgotten corner of Bilston is now a welcoming neighbourhood where families can put down roots for years to come. These energy-efficient homes are built for the future, with lower running costs for residents and a smaller footprint on the planet. We’re proud to have worked alongside the council on a scheme that will leave a lasting legacy for Wolverhampton long after we’ve left site."
