A fundraiser who underwent preventative surgery after discovering a gene mutation has raised another £2,300 for the Walsall hospital that cared for her, bringing her total donations to £14,266.
Tracey Astbury, 58, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and later underwent preventative surgery to remove her fallopian tubes and ovaries due to a BRCA gene mutation, has continued her fundraising efforts for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust's charity, Well Wishers. Her latest event, held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, added £2,300 to her impressive total.
The funds raised will go towards the Chemotherapy Ward at Walsall Manor Hospital, where Ms Astbury received treatment. She expressed her gratitude for the staff, describing them as "incredible and worth their weight in gold."
Over the past five years, Ms Astbury has organised numerous fundraising events, inspired by seeing others do the same while undergoing treatment. She highlighted the contributions of DJ Bob, singer Donna Keen, compere Ricky Jay, and Charlamont Bowling Club for their support.
“
"I do enjoy organising the event, and I was inspired after seeing someone else doing the same when I was sitting in the waiting room during my treatment. I will keep doing them as long as I can."
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, expressed deep gratitude for Ms Astbury's "continued support over the years." She noted that Ms Astbury's previous fundraisers helped fund graphics for the Chemotherapy Unit, and the latest donation will further enhance services and patient comfort.

"Her previous fundraiser helped towards the beautiful graphics that brighten up the walls on the Chemotherapy Unit and this latest donation will help us continue to enhance services and provide those extra touches that can make a difficult time a little easier."
