The town of Kettering is preparing to host this year's Northamptonshire Day on Sunday 25 October, running from 10am to 5pm. Organised by North and West Northamptonshire Council, the event aims to highlight the unique aspects of the county.
The festival will feature themed zones across the town centre, including heritage, culture and arts, family activities, community groups, active leisure, food and drink, and local businesses. Over 50 organisations are expected to participate.
The Heritage zone, located at Manor House Gardens and Corn Market Hall (from 1pm to 5pm), will offer historical re-enactments, archaeological activities, and museum exhibits. Highlights include a 17th-century Civil War encampment by The Sealed Knot, alongside contributions from the Archaeological Resource Centre, Delapré Abbey, the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum, and Northampton Museums and Art Gallery.
The Culture and Family Zones will provide creative workshops and artist demonstrations, with a dedicated quiet space for SEN visitors. Performances will also take place at the Alfred East Gallery, which re-opens to the public on Saturday 24 October, and the Northamptonshire Film Archive Trust will screen local films.
Attendees can sample local produce from breweries, food producers, and street vendors. The Community zone will feature emergency services vehicles and stands from local charities and organisations. Live music from local talent will be performed on the main stage.
Additional activities include heritage bus services running between Northampton and Kettering, a half-term programme at Wicksteed Park with discounted tickets for visitors, and an evening performance at the Lighthouse Theatre.
Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, stated that the event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate everything that makes the county special, from its heritage and culture to its businesses and residents.
Cllr Mark Arnull, Leader of West Northamptonshire Council, encouraged residents and visitors to attend and celebrate shared pride in Northamptonshire, highlighting its heritage, cultural scene, businesses, and community groups.
The BIG50 Book Festival, a week-long programme of free literary activities, will run concurrently across North Northamptonshire.
Northamptonshire Day is sponsored by Wilson Brown Solicitors, London North Eastern Railway, and Ace Furniture.
