Wolverhampton is marking World Mental Health Day on Saturday, 10 October 2026, with a series of events and a focus on listening to lived experiences.

This year's World Mental Health Day theme, ‘Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change’, underscores the significance of hearing individuals' mental health experiences to ensure they feel understood and supported. Councillor Obaida Ahmed, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, emphasised the availability of help and the collective role in fostering a supportive environment. "Everyone deserves good mental health, and we all have a role to play in helping people feel heard, valued and understood," she stated. Councillor Ahmed encouraged open conversations about mental health, noting that empathy and presence can make a significant difference, even without expert knowledge.
Several events are scheduled across the city. The Hope Remains: World Mental Health Day Reflective Service will take place at St Peter's Collegiate Church on Saturday from 4pm to 5pm, following doors opening at 3.30pm. Organised by Violet Project CIO and the Wolverhampton Suicide Prevention Stakeholder Forum Charitable Trust, this free service aims to share messages of hope and connect attendees with local support representatives. Information stalls and refreshments will be available afterwards.
Complementing the service are relaxed 'Tea and Talk' sessions at Central Library this Friday, 9 October, from 10.30am to 12pm, and at Bilston Library on Saturday, 10 October, from 10am to 12pm. These sessions offer a friendly space to chat, meet new people, and discover available community support.
Additionally, 'Care Jar: A Creative Pause for Carers' is scheduled for next Friday, 16 October, at Wolverhampton railway station from 12pm to 2pm. This free session is designed for carers to relax, engage in creative activities, and connect with others, focusing on their personal wellbeing. Tickets can be booked via Eventbrite.
A comprehensive range of mental health support is also highlighted, including NHS-approved tips at Every Mind Matters, 24/7 urgent support via NHS 111 (option 2) or text, and assistance from GP practices, including Social Prescribers. For adults (18+), the Wolverhampton Sanctuary Hub offers out-of-hours help. NHS Talking Therapies provides self-referral support for anxiety, stress, and depression for those aged 16 and over. Local organisations can be found on the Hub of Hope directory.
Support for Children and Young People includes services from Base 25 and the free, anonymous online platform Kooth. Young people can also access confidential support from the School Nursing Service or via ChatHealth. Parents and carers can find advice on specialist services through the CAMHS Single Point of Access. The Best Start Family Hubs Parent and Infant Wellbeing Team offers activities for parents and infants, with more information available via email.
This year's World Mental Health Day also coincides with World Homeless Day, drawing attention to the interconnectedness of mental wellbeing, homelessness, and access to support services.
